Policy Decoder · part of the Decode step

Read a policy in three seconds. Understand it in twenty.

Upload a homeowners, renters, or commercial property policy. VVON™ parses declarations pages, endorsements, sublimits, and exclusions into a visual coverage map with confidence-calibrated language throughout. Never guarantees coverage. Always cites the clause.

How the Policy Decoder works.

Three steps from PDF to coverage map. The full audit runs server- side; you wait on the page or close the tab and come back to a shareable result.

Step 01
Upload
Drag a PDF, a scanned image, or paste the carrier portal URL. VVON accepts HO-3, HO-5, HO-6 (condo), DP-3 (rental), and most commercial property forms.
Step 02
Parse
The Policy Intelligence Engine extracts declarations, endorsements, exclusions, sublimits, and obligations. Every clause carries a confidence score and the page number it came from.
Step 03
Read
You receive a coverage map with 4–8 topics, a confidence score for the entire extraction, and an explicit "missing evidence" list — what would strengthen the read if you had it.

What VVON extracts from your policy.

The extraction is structural, not narrative. Every field below becomes a queryable node in the audit — you can filter, sort, and cross-reference instead of scrolling 87 pages.

Coverages
A (dwelling), B (other structures), C (personal property), D (loss of use), E (liability), F (medical payments). With limits and deductibles per line.
Endorsements
Every rider extending or restricting base coverage. Water backup, ordinance-or-law buy-up, RCC on personal property, scheduled-property endorsements.
Exclusions
Named perils excluded, anti-concurrent causation language, intentional-acts exclusion, ordinance-or-law cap below buy-up, neglect / failure-to-mitigate.
Sublimits
Mold ($5K typical), jewelry / firearms / electronics caps on Coverage C, ordinance-or-law (10% default), business property on premises.
Obligations
What the policy requires of you on a loss — notification timing, mitigation steps, examination under oath rights, sworn statement deadline.
Confidence
Per-clause confidence score plus a parse-confidence total. Low confidence triggers a flag rather than a silent guess.

What you will receive — and what it is not.

The output
  • Plain-English coverage summary, 4–8 topics
  • Verbatim quoted clauses with section + page references
  • Endorsements and exclusions surfaced separately
  • Confidence-calibrated framing throughout
  • Explicit "missing evidence" list — what would strengthen the read
What it is not
  • ×Not a public-adjuster service
  • ×Not a legal opinion
  • ×Not a coverage guarantee
  • ×Not a determination of whether your carrier will pay
  • ×Not retained until you log in — anonymous uploads are processed and analyzed only

How VVON is different.

Comparative honesty — there are three other ways a homeowner typically tries to understand their policy. Each has a place; none replace the others.

vs. ChatGPT-style upload
General LLMs read the prose but don't know what to extract structurally. You get a chat summary, not a coverage map. No citations, no confidence scores, no audit trail.
vs. DIY reading
Reading the policy yourself works — it takes ~3 hours per HO-3 booklet for a careful read. VVON gets there in ~20 seconds with the same fidelity on the basics.
vs. public adjuster (PA)
A PA represents you on a specific claim for a percentage of the settlement. VVON is a forensic tool that produces the record — the PA can argue from that record when one is the right call.

FAQ.

Is the Policy Decoder free?

Your first forensic policy review is free and does not require a credit card. After that, the Solo subscription ($99/mo) includes ten reviews per month, the Firm subscription ($299/mo) includes unlimited reviews, and one-off single reviews are available for $79.

What file formats do you accept?

PDF is the recommended format — declarations pages, full policy booklets, and endorsement riders all parse correctly. We also accept JPG / PNG scans for older paper policies, though OCR quality varies and the confidence score on the output will reflect that.

Will VVON tell me whether my carrier will pay?

No. VVON describes what your policy says — the coverages present, the exclusions on file, the sublimits that apply. Whether your specific loss is covered depends on facts the policy alone cannot answer (loss type, sequence of events, mitigation diligence, state-specific case law). The output is a coverage map, not a coverage opinion.

Do you store my policy?

If you sign in, the policy stays in your account so you can revisit the audit. If you run an anonymous free review, the document is processed and the structured output is shown back to you; the source file is deleted within 30 days. Full controls live on /security.

Can I share the coverage map with my adjuster, agent, or attorney?

Yes — every audit exports as a PDF and as structured CSV. Adjusters and agents can read the coverage map directly; attorneys can ingest the CSV into their case management system. Citations to specific policy sections travel with the export so the recipient can verify everything against the source document.
